I’ve met American fashion designer David Meister several times over the years at personal appearances at major retailers in the area. He is always affable, upbeat and passionate about creating sophisticated, body-conscious womenswear. I’ve always particularly admired his evening collections, which is how he started. His designs have ended up on the red carpet on more than one socialite and celebrity. Only lately has he segued into ladies day dresses. Meister’s recent appearance at Saks Fifth Avenue, South Coast Plaza, drew a contingent of Mission Hospital supporters for cocktails, appetizers, and a look at the talented LA-based designer’s Fall/Holiday daytime and evening wear collections. He shared that 95% of his creations are knit or stretch material. “A woman wants to look pretty and sexy,” Meister said, “and my clothes also let them be comfortable as well.” Meister had nice things to say about Saks. “Saks Fifth Avenue has been a great partner in helping me build my business,” he said. The store’s Vice President and General Manager Todd Hoyles welcomed everyone and announced that 10% of sales would benefit the Mission Hospital Foundation. Guests thoroughly enjoyed the talented designer’s latest offerings, with lucky Meister fan Radmila Corin from Irvine winning the raffle prize featuring a Meister dress of her choice, with personalized styling by the designer himself. The value was up to $690. It was evident Meister thoroughly enjoys interfacing with his clients, as he helped guests select clothes and offered suggestions as to how to wear them and accessorize them. All in all, it was a pleasant evening with Mr. Meister and his creative designs!
